Omamori

The term Omamori is composed of the word "mamori" which means protection. With the "o" in front it takes the meaning of "your protection". Omamori are Japanese lucky charms, present in both the Buddhist and the Shinto tradition. Today there are many types of Omamori, each of which is dedicated to a particular need (protection against road accidents, money, health, love, protection of pets, success in studying, etc.). They are made by monks and usually have the shape of silk bags with inside a sheet with a prayer. They have a small string so that you can hang the bag, for example in the car, on the key ring or bag. Very important: remember that the Omamori should never be opened, on pain of losing their effectiveness. They should always be carried with you, hanging from your bag or keys. If they wear out, it means they have done their job by absorbing negativity for you. The duration of an Omamori is one year, after which it should be reported to the monks of the Temple, if you are in Japan. Alternatively, you can keep it as a souvenir, but never open it.
