Japanese shoes and sandals

Traditional Japanese thong shoes are mainly divided into two models: the Zori handmade sandals, more formal and elegant, and the Geta wooden clogs, which are worn in informal situations. The Japanese Zori sandals are worn mainly with the Kimono, while the Japanese Geta clogs are combined with the Yukata (informal summer Kimono). Both the Japanese Geta and Zori sandals are worn with the Japanese Tabi socks. The Zori are more comfortable than the Geta, thanks to the softer sole. The two types of traditional Japanese thong shoes have a fabric string, called Hanao, usually decorated with floral motifs, which separates the big toe from the other toes.
